Rain didn’t dampen spirits at the seventh Just for Kids Law Charity Cup, which took place at Rocks Lane Sports Centre in Chiswick on Saturday. Sponsored by Hodge, Jones and Allen, the annual Charity Cup brings together some of the biggest names in the legal profession with Just for Kids Law clients, staff and supporters to play football and raise much-needed funds.
Twenty teams competed to lift the coveted trophy, which was eventually won by tournament debutants ABV Solicitors after they beat the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association 1-0 in the final. Eversheds Sutherland and a team sponsored by Garden Court Chambers also reached the semi-finals.
Just for Kids Law fielded a team made up of staff and clients. Despite being knocked out in the group stages, the team put on some good displays, including a 5-0 win over Lamb Building. Other noteworthy matches included a 9-1 victory for Furnival Chambers – a record margin of victory in the competition – and a thrilling penalty shoot-out between Eversheds Sutherland and Furnival.
Just for Kids Law Programme Director Joel Carter, who took charge of organising the event, said that he felt it was a huge success. “This event is one of the highlights of the Just for Kids calendar, when our clients, staff and partner organisations come together to have some fun and raise funds for our crucial work. The weather was against us this year, but we got a great turnout nonetheless – as well as some truly memorable matches.
“I’d like to thank all the teams that took part and everyone who came down to cheer them on, and special thanks to our friends at Hodge, Jones and Allen whose sponsorship helped make this happen.”
